PH 212 - General physics with calculus
In this course, we cover selected topics in Newtonian mechanics, beginning with
circular motion, including uniform circular motion and orbital motion. We will
then deal with the topic of rotation, including rotational energy, moments of
inertia, torque and rotational dynamics in general, with particular emphasis on
conservation of angular momentum and problem-solving techniques. We will then
move to the topic of oscillations, dealing with simple harmonic motion and
related concepts including driven and damped oscillations. We apply the concepts
learned in our study of oscillations to the topic of 2-D and 3-D waves,
including applications in sound and light waves. We will discuss wave
interference, and wave optics before ending the course with a treatment of ray
optics.
