PH211 General physics with calculus

In this course, we begin our study of Newtonian motion. We start with a review of vectors and scalars and the fundamental concept of motion. We then study the topic of kinematics in one or more dimensions. Kinematics is the study of objects in motion without regard to the forces causing acceleration. Within kinematics, we will study the behaviors of projectiles. Our next focus is on forces and acceleration, covering Newton’s three laws, including cases where friction is involved. We then turn our focus to momentum with special emphasis on collisions and the conservation of momentum. Our final topics are the conservation of energy and the related work-energy theorem.
